Welcome to Sozopol

Once in this place there was a temple of god Apollo and its 12-meter statue, made by the Athenian sculptor Kalamid, and taken to Rome by proconsul Mark Lucull. Apolonia and Sozopolis, a city of salvation and deliverance, today Sozopol is the place that attracts tourists not only to their location and their wonderful conditions for rest, but also with their history. Being inhabited by Thracians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and within the borders of empires and kingdoms, the town, which together with Nessebar is one of the most ancient in Bulgaria, keeps the traces of the peoples inhabiting it among the stones laid with mortar, behind its monasteries and in the foundations of its temples.
Sozopol is a town in Southeastern Bulgaria, situated in the southern part of Burgas Bay. Its islands include St. Ivan and St. Peter. It is 35 km south of Burgas. It is divided into Stara and Nova part, among them is the Sea Garden. The city has a rich bed base, nice restaurants where you can eat fish and fish delicacies and Sozopol specialties - fig and jam, to go out in the shops for souvenirs, as in each of them is the spirit of the travelers.
The Old Town is located on the Skamniy Peninsula or Stoltec, so called because of its similarity to a seat on a three-legged stool. The western part of the peninsula is connected with the island of St. Kirik, through an artificial isthmus and together form a bay in which the Sozopol and Yacht ports are built. The first thing you will the city wall is impressed with the fortress wall and the southern fortress wall with the guard tower, which is today a museum. Another museum is the Archaeological, housed in the building of the St. Cyril and Methodius Church, also called the "Refugee Church", built by Usta Gencho of Tryavna. It has a valuable iconostasis of oak and chipsir wood. Visit the Alexander Mutafov House Museum and the ethnographic exhibition of Sozopol, all of which are donated by the local population. There is no way miss architectural and historical reserve Ancient Sozopol, covering 180 residential buildings built of stone and wood. The city and its islands are rich in temples and monasteries. If you are interested in the Bulgarian church from the Ottoman rule, visit the Assumption of the 15th Century. It is a monument of culture and is under the protection of UNESCO. The temple was dug into the ground, because the Ottoman authorities demanded it the Christian temples should not exceed two meters above the ground. The church has a unique wooden iconostasis with carvings. Other churches whose thresholds you could "St. George the Victorious" is the largest church in Sozopol, there are kept particles of the Holy Cross and the relics of the Apostle Andrew and the church "St. Zostim" - the patron saint of Sozopol. Cape Kolokita, standing 2 km south of the city, is not only a place for diving but also a place exciting with its Thracian mounds. On the island of St. Ivan are located Monastery "St. John Proprom" and a large cult complex. On the ancient Thracian sanctuary was built a Byzantine basilica, destroyed in the 9th century and restored in the first half of the 10th century, and on the Cape Skamniy are the remains of the Monastery of Saint Apostles, whose church is to be restored and preserved. Another Monastery is St. Kirik and Julita on the island of St. Kirik.
The town has several beaches - the Central; beach Harmanite, which is one of the most modern on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, has its own restaurants, discos, water attractions; Budjaka beach Beverly Hill and Royal Beach, 4 km long, it is long and sparsely populated, connects the Gradina and Golden Fish camps. Going down to the resort village of Dyuni, you will see the rock phenomenon of Cape Agalina. There are many bays here, but they are hard to reach. Another such phenomenon is the Lion a head, located 11 km away and part of the Strandja Nature Park. It is a stone pyramid about 65-70 million years old and rises about 110 meters from a river Ropotamo. Along with hotels and guest houses, you can relax at one of the campsites near Sozopol, such as "Kavatsi", "Veselie", "Zlatna ribka", "Gradina" as well as camp "Smokinia", to which is located the "Sandstone Lily" reserve, the natural range of the flower of the same name. If you love water sports, visit Neptune's Aqua Park 3.5 km and the castle "In love in the wind" near the village of Ravadinovo, standing 3 km away from Sozopol.
