Among the mysteries of the stars, the mysticism of the rocks and the depths of the caves, there is the place known as Belgradin, the little Belgrade. Today on the map of the country this place is recorded as Belogradchik.
Belogradchik is a small town in Northwestern Bulgaria and is situated in the western part of the Balkan Mountains. It stands 43 km from the town of Vidin, 50 km from the town of Vidin Montana, 88 km away from the town of Vratsa and 117 km away from the city of Sofia. The climate is moderate continental with hot summers and cold winters.
The town attracts tourists with Belogradchik fortress, Belogradchik rocks and caves. The fortress was built in Roman times, for its construction the natural rock forms are used. The wonderful rock phenomena, whose bizarre shapes are dyed red to yellow, are about 200m high and formed more than 200 million years ago. They stretch over an area of ​​50 sq. Km from the village of Rabisha to the west village of Belotintsi in the east. But you will need a mile away from the center to dive into their mysticism. For lovers of caves, the city's surroundings offer several, among which is one of the largest in Bulgaria - the Magura. It is located 23 km from Belogradchik. Deep is 56 m and it is 2500 m long, the temperature in it is between 11-12 degrees. It was discovered in 1960, it was illuminated and there were safety devices. Other caves are Venza, located 14 km away from a city that is extremely beautiful and rich in education; Lepenitsa, 4 km away from Belogradchik and 6 km of Kozarnika, the excavations give information about the earliest presence of people in Europe. Besides the caves, the waterfall Bella Voda is 23 km away from Belogradchik, it is about 15 m high and has two water falls, Rybashkovo lake, which is the largest inland lake and is seventh among the lakes in Bulgaria and the Bashovishka church in the village of Oreshets, dating back to the 12th century. It is located at the foot of the Copenhagen Mountains on the banks of the Skomlyanska River.
