Located at 1,350 meters above sea level, the former Chamkoria still keeps track of its aristocratic past, shaking as last waltz chords the northern elephants of the Rila Mountains. When the first villa was built here in 1896, no one yet suggests that in the 1960s and 70s of the 20th century the construction of the first alpine-style hotels and the first winter sports facilities, the former Chamkoria will become one of the most beautiful winter resorts of Bulgaria, known not only in country but also abroad, under the name Borovets. Borovets is located 9 km from Samokov. It is 68 km away from the capital Sofia, to which it belongs, 83 km from Blagoevgrad and 125 km from Plovdiv. Winter here is soft and snowy, with the coldest month in January -4.8 degrees. The ski season runs from December to April, and the ski season tracks are graded by difficulty. The Rila, Iglika, Rotata, Sitnyakovo 1, Sitnyakovtsi, Martini Baraki 1, Haramiya, Suhar, Markudjik 1 are lighter and suitable for beginners. The Tsarska Bistritsa Palace is 1.3 km away from Borovets. It was built during the time of King Ferdinand, between 1898 and 1914. It was the residence of the Bulgarian kings of the Third Bulgarian Kingdom. It is open for visits from Thursday to Sunday.
